Browser
Guide
A
Web browser is a software program that enables you to access and display
information from the World Wide Web quickly and easily. Our website is
best viewed using a browser that supports the capabilities of Netscape
Navigator® version 4.7 or higher, and Microsoft® Internet Explorer
version 5.5 or higher. These are the ONLY
Internet browsers supported by Lighthouse Infomatics.
To
send secure files to our database and access your reports, your browser must support:
|
 |
128-bit
encryption (also called domestic-, U.S.-grade, or strong
encryption), which encodes information so that it cannot be read
without decoding. |
|
 |
Secure
Sockets Layer (SSL) version 2.0 protocol, which ensures that
communication between your computer and our Web server can't be
interrupted or intercepted by an unauthorized user. |
|
To
check the security capabilities of your browser, do the following:
1.
Click on the 'Help' menu at the top of the browser window.
2.
Select the 'About...' item specific to your browser - either 'About
Internet Explorer' or 'About Communicator...'.

a.
For Internet Explorer users, a window will pop up with your
browser information (see picture). Note the second line of text
that says, 'Cipher Strength:'. This should say '128-bit' for your
cipher strength. If it saws anything else (typically 40-bit) you
must upgrade the security of your browser. Click on the Update
Information link to go to Microsoft's site & download the
appropriate upgrade.

For Netscape Navigator users, a new page will open in your
browser with a lot of information (see picture). The security
settings are not as easily determined as in Internet Explorer. If
you have difficulty accessing the secure portions of our website,
go to www.Netscape.com
and download the most current upgrade to you browser.

Remember that once
you've downloaded the proper browser, you must install it on your
